Mutu To Replace Mancini At Roma?
Roma midfielder Mancini has refused the latest contract offer from his club in a move that could lead to the player to leave Rome. Latest reports suggest he could be replaced by Adrian Mutu.
According to Italian sports daily 'Corriere dello Sport', the Giallorossi have already indicated who will be Mancini's heir at if the Brazilian leaves the club, as is widely touted.
The number one candidate to replace him is Fiorentina forward Adrian Mutu, and Roma are ready to offer the entire 18m euros they will receive from the sale of Mancini to Fiorentina in order to lure the Romanian striker.
This will not be a simple operation for the Giallorossi, and a lot will depend on whether the team manages to qualify directly for the Champions League by the end of the season.
The main problem is the fact that Mutu's contract with Fiorentina expires in 2012 and the Della Valle brothers have no intention of letting him go.
However, Mutu might be driven to ask for a transfer, considering that at Roma he will be able to gain a much higher wage than what Fiorentina can currently offer him.
Then of course, there is the lure of playing in the Champions League, something the player has admitted he is very keen on.
Manchester City are said to be leading the race for Mancini, even though Sven-Goran Eriksson denied comments that he wanted the winger "now".
